Have you heard about this new movie, "True Grit"? Guess what..not new. It was originally done in 1969 and starred THE John Wayne as Marshal Reuben "Rooster" J. Cogburn. It is an epic movie about a man's transformation through the eyes of a young girl as he helps her hunt down the evil men who killed her father and terrorized her family. It is a movie I grew up watching at least three or four times a year. I've seen almost all of John Wayne's movies over the years and "True Grit" has always been my favorite.
This incident has gotten me thinking...where is the line drawn to decide what is going to be remade and what is not. While some films are remade from foreign films to American movies (The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, The Ring, Scent of A Woman) and the usually come out well; quite a lot of films get remade into weak shells of their former selves (The Nutty Professor, Planet of the Apes, Rear Window). So what's the dealio...when does it go from creative interpretation to making money off the backs of our Director/Producer forefathers?
